Peter Vitucci Scholarship

This scholarship is made possible by family and friends in memory of Peter Vitucci. Peter died in an automobile accident in the fall of 1992. He graduated in 1991 with a B.S. degree in Criminal Justice and was employed as a police officer with the Wood Dale Police Department. He was an excellent student and had a wonderful relationship with the criminal justice faculty. He was proud to be an Illinois State University graduate and to be working in the criminal justice field.

Qualifactions for the Peter Vitucci Memorial Scholarship:

  • Be an Illinois State University student who will have completed the junior year during the calendar year of the application.
  • Have at least a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
  • Have the intent to work in the criminal justice field and possess high moral values, integrity, and demonstrate leadership qualities.
  • Be involved in activities of the Criminal Justice Department and/or of the University.

Recipients will be presented with a $1000 award along with a plaque, at the Annual CJS Student Awards Reception in April. The deadline for application materials is March 19th. Please submit completed applications to the Criminal Justice Sciences Department in Schroeder 441. All qualified students should complete the following application:

Departmental Scholar

Each year the department recognizes a senior in Criminal Justice Sciences who has both the greatest number of class hours taken at Illinois State and whose grade point average is the highest among those students.

The department has traditionally recognized two departmental scholars each year, one for a student whose entire career has been at Illinois State and a second for students who transfer into Illinois State Unversity.

Recipients of this $100 award will be recognized at the Annual CJS Student Awards Reception in April.

Community Service Award

Each year the department recognizes a senior in Criminal Justice Sciences who has distinguished themselves through both scholarship and their service to the community. For the purpose of this award, community service will be defined as any volunteer work performed for a not-for-profit organization either on campus, in the Bloomington-Normal area or at any other location during the student's college level academic career. The recipient of the award will receive $100 along with a plaque at the Annual CJS Student Awards Reception in April.

A student must:

  • have completed a minimum of 90 semester hours toward the bachelor's degree. 12 hours of which must have been completed in criminal justice.
  • An up to date resume which includes community service experience (s) and
  • a cover letter which describes the scope and degree of the community service experience (s) must be submitted.

The deadline to submit these materials is March 19th. Completed application materials should be submitted to the Criminal Justice Sciences office in Schroeder 441.

McLean County Sportsman's Association Scholarship

The McLean County Sportsman’s Association Scholarship is a $2000 award for a Criminal Justice Sciences major who is enrolled in CJS 398.01/398.02 and has been accepted as an intern with the DNR/ Conservation Police (8 or 16 week program). The student must have a minimum GPA of 3.25/4.0 and be interested in a career with the Department of Natural Resources/Conservation Police.
