dmission to the Graduate Program

An applicant should complete :

  • an on-line graduate application form and submit it to the Office of Graduate Admissions
  • Starting from Fall 2008, all graduate students are required to submit GRE scores.
    • A recommended minimum combined GRE score of 1000.
  • a goals statement to be sent directly to the Criminal Justice Sciences Department
  • Two letters of recommendation are required for any student who is not a graduate of Illinois State University's Criminal Justice Sciences undergraduate program. These letters should be sent directly to the Department of Criminal Justice Sciences. To assure full consideration, all required documents must be submitted on or before March 15 for fall semester and October 15 for spring semester.

**GPA Admission Criteria (last 60 semester hours of undergraduate work)

3.20 and higher 3.00 to 3.19 2.60 to 2.99 below 2.60
Admitted on a space available basis Admitted on a space available basis. Preference given to those with degrees in criminal justice or related disciplines. Only admitted under special circumstances, such as substantial practical experience in the field and/or scores on the verbal and quantitative sections of the GRE general test that total 1000 or higher. Admission contingent upon availablity will not be admitted

** A student without a social science background, however, may be denied admission or admitted only on the basis of agreeing to take certain preparatory courses.
